Hook Parish Council: Our Parish Clerk

Never have so many owed so much to...

Hook's long serving Parish Clerk, Dave Deadman, has been awarded the Hart District Council Chairman's Award of Merit. The awards are given annually, for outstanding Community Service in Hart District.

Dave, who has been parish clerk for over thirty years,  was presented with his award - an engraved glass vase and a bouquet of flowers - by Hart Chairman Charles Lynch on March 28th at the Harlington Centre, Fleet. In the audience were most of Hook Parish Council, who had secretly nominated him, along with his wife Valerie and members of his family.

Over the years, Dave will have become familiar to many Hook residents as the point of contact for the Parish Council. What most people may not have realised is how much the Council relies on Dave to get things done.  Many initiatives to the advantage of the village have started because Dave spotted an opportunity in a change of legislation, or the way that District Council funding was being administered, or simply because he wouldn't take "no" for an answer.

He has worked tirelessly for the good of the village, far above the duties owing to the paid post of Parish Clerk.

Dave has left his mark on Hook to a very considerable degree and we have all gained many benefits from his hard work.

Thank you, Dave!

Sadly, Dave lost his battle against cancer on April 18th 2001. His obituary can be found here.
